Jesca Hoop ----> Single: Feast of the Heart

‘Feast of the Heart’- introduces a new technique of fusing two contradicting styles, folk and alternative, which is unusual but works a treat. Taken from Jesca Hoop second album, the Californian has been hailed to be the ‘new Kate bush’.

With trippy percussion and deepening bass riff throughout, mixed with Jesca’s rather haunting vocals makes for a very lively song considering the darkness of the lyrics; which are most probably influenced from her strict Mormon upbringing. This single defiantly shows her vocal ability, which is reminiscent to the likes of Emiliana Torrini or a young Joni Mitchell. The use of echoic and vocal trickery adds to the eerily evocative vibe, as though she is shouting the lyrics at you from inside a cave. Then with a chorus of drums kicking in, injects a more up beat feel to the track, that sounds rather like a ‘Cardigans’ track. She defiantly sets herself apart as a niche female artist bringing about a mixture of influences.

As folk alternative goes, this is a rare find and a must to check out.
