Marnia and The Diamonds

A Welsh wannabe Welch or a new Kate Bush? Well Marina from the Diamonds certainly has the accolades to be either. Nominated for the Critic’s Choice award at this years Brits shows the potential the band has, as with the success of fellow winners such as Florence and Adele, Marina certainly has made an impression on the music scene. As not to follow the now trend of synth-pop and to fall into Little Boots and La Roux’s little gang, Marina sticks with a more piano based pop sound and doing it all on her own back. Her lyrics are rather simplistic and to the point, as songs such as ‘I Am Not A Robot’. Her quirky catching vocals have you gripped from the start, along with her outfits that would rival lady Gaga’s wardrobe.

The Family Jewels will be the bands debut album out in February, including the singles ‘Obsession’ and ‘Hollywood’. Songs such as ‘Seventeen’ have a sythish style to do it, kind of catchy sound like Fiest and the vocals of a young Kate Bush. She covers most bases of romance and girly insecurities in such songs as ‘Girls’. I think Marina and her diamonds will go far, watch this space 2010.
