Hockey: Lincoln Uni 3rds V Nottingham Uni 4ths
Finally we got to play some hockey after 2 weeks out of action; the team was raring to go! This week we travelled to Nottingham Uni to play their 4th team, which we all agreed would be a hard game.
The weather wasn't the best but that didn't faze us as we took to the pitch for the first half. Again I was right back helping Katie in goal, with two additions to the team from the 2nds to help us.
First half it was evident Nottingham had a well structured and communicated team, and some really good strikers. Again we conceded another short corner; our defence did well to hold back the opposition but within the first 10 mins Nottingham had scored. It seemed we had the same problems again with no communication and no one pushing forward. We don't seem to use the wing players who could really make more opportunities for us. Costello and Megan did really well getting the ball and me, Emily and Anna worked really hard in defence. As the first half drew to a close we were down by a lot of goals.
Team talk at half time, Emily (captain) and Rach (vice) said what everyone else thought- we were playing crap! Everyone felt the same, but the ref admired our strength and positivity- maybe because we are so used to losing! Second half went the same way-more goals, more short corners and more disappointment. Tiff one of our key midfielders had a nasty injury, and went off which was another blow to the teams moral. In the end we lost an embarrassing 25- nil :( but I hope the day will come when we actually win a game!
Afterwards we were treated to teas at Nottingham student union, which was really nice- curly fires and beans! We reflected on our performances and agreed we needed to do a lot more training and less drinking! Although it was our social that night where we dressed up in army gear in which drinking was highly involved. Siobhan finally got dick of the day resulting in a dirty pint in which she later threw up- well-done! Man of the match- Anna, she was spot on in defence. In all I love our team and I just think more communication and more training will gain us some wins (hopefully). Next game another trip to Nottingham....this time Trent!!!!
