Hockey: Lincoln Ladies 3rds Vs De-Montford Ladies 1sts

First game of 2009, the ladies 3rds hockey team hoped for a better result against the De-Montford ladies. Last time we met them we lost 23-nil (not funny), however that was our first ever game and since then we have grown better as a team. Also this being our first game in our new kit!! Finally arriving after several games playing in random sports wear.
We had additions to the team, as a few of our players were moved up to the 2nds. We had two 2nds playing for us up front to take their place. Myself in defence as usual as right back, supporting Katie in goal.

First half De-montford were the dominant team, working the defence really hard and always pushing up. Within 10 minutes they had scored 2 goals, and as the game progressed more followed. Again the De-Montford’s goal keeper had little work to do, as we didn’t make much of a break through the oppositions defence. Myself gaining a bruised arm! Trying to save a goal, very painful. We made some good saves, however as the first half drew to a close the moral in the team seemed down and defeated.

Team talk at half time always gives us a boost, although we were losing 10-nil (lol). We shared our thoughts, main point being that we needed to look up when we received the ball and not panic. We just seem to have no communication when we play. The opposition was well organised and better skilled by far, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t put up a good fight!

Second half begins, myself on the bench due to my astros giving me blisters! But I was eager to get back on. Watching on the side line I could see the problems we were having, as soon as we hit out of our half we never keept hold of the ball. We were coursing a lot of short corners, and we weren’t working the opposition hard enough. Finally when we did break through the defence we gained a short corner, we saw hope! It wasn’t to be as their defence was all over us.

The final score 18-nil, never disheartened we took away some positives i.e. better than 23-nil which was an improvement. Even De-monford said we looked much better than last time. With training Monday, we will need to work very hard if we are going to beat Nottingham away on Wednesday. Lets hope we will finally win our first game!!!!!!!!!
