Lincoln Uni 3rds V Nottingham Trent

Another away game at Nottingham, but this time it was Trent and we were out for revenge! Last time we met them we lost 7-0, which considering some of our defeats that is pretty good.

The sun was out and everyone was fairly confident as we arrived on the pitch. For this game we had 2nd team goalie Charlie as Katie couldn’t play, and Trisha a 1st team player.

First half we looked very tidy with the ball, keeping possession well and passing quickly. Trent seemed pretty on par with us in terms of skill, so we were in for a close match. Myself, Anna and KayLeigh in defence worked of some attempts from Trent, who were beginning to push forward a lot. We caused a few short corners but we soon dealt with them. We seemed to be passing it really well, especially with Trisha right wing who took the ball to the second half regularly, which gave Hannah and Tiff something to go on. It worked particularly well as Hannah scoped us a GOAL! We were absolutely ecstatic! Celebrating like we had never scored before (well…haha). Whistle blows for half time, 1-0 to us! Everyone agreed to not let the goal get to our heads. Just keep playing like we were and keep focused on the game at hand.

Second half begins and we go at it all guns blazing! Trent was starting to make more threats, coming close to scoring a couple of times. Possession was fairly equal; it was good seeing us work their defence for once. Our midfield was very strong with Jacqui and Rach working really hard pushing forward a lot making more chances for us. 10 minutes left and we could see victory. Could it be our first ever win!!!…Well no. Within the last couple of minutes Trent had scored, very gutting but we soldiered on. We gave it our all to get that winner, be it was too late.

In the end it was a draw 1-1, and I would say one of our best performances since Derby where we lost 3-2. A very close game, which has given the team a massive boost as we have achieved our first point! :-) . Man of match again was Anna, quality marking and skill ;-) and dick of the day yet again Siobhan for falling flat on her face, the melon! Derby at home next week and we are ready for another close one. Let’s hope we can end the season on a win.
