You know when you have made it big when you appear to 60,000 people behind a flood of red mist in middle of London. Filling out Hyde Park on Wednesday evening along with support from ‘The Drums’ and ‘The Black Keys’ and also their touring friends ‘The Whigs’ and ‘The Features’- The Kings of Leon played their biggest headline show of their careers so far.
Caleb seemed some what blown away -“This is what we’ll tell our children. This is one of those moments.” They did a cover of ‘Where is my mind’ by the Pixies that seemed to down well, although most of people where only there for ‘Only by the Night’- which goes to show how mainstream they have become. However, they played some new tracks ‘Southbound’, ‘Immortal’ and ‘Radioactive’ along with old favourites such as the infamous ‘Molly Chambers’ that filled the park with a deepening riff that anyone would recognize. Ending on the “oohh- wooah’s” of ‘Use Somebody’ and ‘Black Thumbnail’- leaving the crowd in rapture.
Most fans may have only been there for their recent hits, but you have to appreciate that the Kings have an amazing back catalogue that makes them who they are, and not just a one album band.
