Ok I take back some of the things I said about the Arctic Monkeys 3rd album after seeing them live again, they just reminded me of how great they are. Humbug has grown on me and I have to say it’s on repeat most days.
From seeing them back in 2007 to now, there is a big difference in style, music and attitude. Alex is more laid back and the band has appeared to have grown up with this new direction. Alex’s lyrics showcase what a poetically talented young songwriter he is and with co-producer Josh Holmes along his side, the band gets an injection of a bit more rock and elegance.

I think this shows that the Monkeys are going to be around for a very long time, and will continue to progress and experiment further. The first album obviously made them who they are today, and they will always have those hits like any other amazing band i.e. U2.
I’ve read Alex has unfinished business with this album and plans to get back in the record studio as soon as possible, it just shows the bands love of music and how the creativeness is flowing continuously.
When I saw them in Nottingham back in November, they just ozzed excellence and graze on stage. Alex wasn’t his usual cocky self, it seems he just lets his music do the talking, and man it talked! I literally had goose bumps during the last verse of ‘Florescent adolescent’ when he went into ‘Mardy bum’.

Songs such as ‘Dance little liar’ and ‘Secret door’, are an example of Alex’s genius writing and is beautifully complemented by amazing percussion and slow guitar riffs. They know themselves how big they are now and this performance justified that to me. Long live the monkeys!
