Classic Films // Fight Club

I would like to break the first rule of Fight Club and that is talk about Fight Club, as this is a film that refuses to be ignored or dismissed without a bare knuckle fight. If you are easily offended, like violence, masochism and aggression- then this movie is right up your street.

This is an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk award winning novel ‘Fight Club’, his first and most hard hitting novel to date - that soon became a cult hit. Chuck has the ability to make you notice things that you never did in yourself and the world – that’s what makes his work so unique and gripping.

It challenges the boundaries of what is expectable in film, as it has the ability to make you wince in pain to laughter. It can be seen as threatening with the political incorrectness of it all, but who cares! This is life - blood, sweat and tears and if you one of the few it does offend then you probably need a Tyler Denton in your life. Along with the added value of Brad Pitt being in his best shape ever and the site of Edward Norton beating the life out of Jared Leto – who could resist.
What makes it so great is the twists and shock moments that have you questioning your own sanity and mundane life.

“You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world” – Probably the most intelligent thing Brad Pitt has ever said.

It follows Jack (Edward Norton) as he narrates his monotonous 9 to 5 existence with his materialistic flat and sleepless nights he starts to attend a self help group dealing with testicular cancer for emotional attention, even though he hasn’t even got the disease. A desperate reaction starts to develop and thus creating Tyler Denton (Brad Pitt), that seems to be the beast within that leads him down the road of rebellion and teaches him to let the chips fall down as they may. However, Tyler is a completely unconventional human being as together they start a Fight Club, a new form of self help for Jack that involves beating the living crap out of someone to feel ‘saved’.
This all comes to blow when ‘Project mayhem’ starts to spiral out of control, this is when Jack realises he is in fact Tyler Denton. Battling against his alter ego Jack confronts Tyler that leads him back to ‘ground zero’.

“This is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time” so watch it now before it’s too late as it may just open your eyes- that’s if your brave enough.
