My Top Ten Albums of the decade

"Whatever people say I am, that is what I’m not"- Arctic Monkeys

The best thing to come out of Yorkshire since sliced bread, the Arctic Monkeys smash records as the best selling debut album of all time, and what a cracker it is! The lads deliver the underground tones of the cigarette and caffeine indie clatter to off the cuff lyrics that really get the pulse racing.

“The Seldom Seen Kid”- Elbow

The Mercury award winning album gave the Mancunians the acknowledgement they finally deserved. An amazing blend of orchestral rock and smooth piano ridden melodies, really show cases the bands talent to the mainstream. Also cementing their status as one of Britain’s best live bands.

"Hot Fuss"- The Killers

The Killers debut album certainly caused a hot fuss in the music industry, with its 80s synth style, this band clearly rate the swoon over the swagger. ‘Mr. Brightside’ one of the most popular tracks in any club, certainly gets you singing till your lungs hurt. This band aren’t soldiers but they have certainly got the soul.

"Silent Alarm"- Bloc Party

Are you hoping for a miracle? Well the world got one when Bloc Party released their critically acclaimed album Silent Alarm in 2005. They put their unique wiry London sounds and cryptic lyrics to the public’s ears, and they loved it! From rocking out to ‘Helicopter’ to the slow elegant rhythm of ‘So Here We Are’, you’ll be left with a smile on your face.

"Because of the Times"- Kings of Leon

The Tennessee rockers deepen their sound from being known as ‘The Southern Strokes’ to atmospheric stadium rockers. From the deep drowning bass of ‘Charmer’ and ‘On call’ to the slow melodic sound of ‘Fans’, that brings the band back to their southern roots. This is the album that broke the Kings in to commercial success, a definite must for the recorded collection.

The self titled first album- Kasbian

In 2004 Kasabian were born and what an album to debut on! Originally titled Test Transmissions, the Leicester lads pack a punch with heavy bass anthems such as ‘Club Foot’, and beatie tracks like ‘Processed Beats’ that would make the Stone Roses blush. Tom and Serge merge indie with dance floor beats that makes for one hell of a gig, let it continue lads don’t become lost souls forever for music’s sake!

“Up the Bracket”- The Libertines

Who’d have thought four greasy, cider stained Albion lads would make such a racket and produce one of the finest albums of this decade, well me and about a million Julian Casablanca wannabes. With a helping hand from former rock legend Mick Jones of the Clash, this album gives you a punch in the face and a bleeding nose. With its snotty-garage rock and the underlining genuine soul of Pete’s ramblings of romances and getting plastered, this is a true British outlook on life and a must buy!

‘Forever To Tell’- The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Another highly acclaimed debut album lives up to its hype, as Karen O bursts on to the scene with her indie noise rock and her very unique fashion, that would make Lady GaGa’s outfits look fairly normal. The rough raw energetic sound of ‘Date with the Night’ really gets you of your feet, and an amazing album from start to finish.

‘Is This It?’- The Strokes

Yes this is it Strokes you are the saviors of rock and roll and denim jackets! The hype over this album certainly lived up to its expectations as one of the best to come out of the New York’s long dormant club scene. They bring the sex, drugs and rock n roll back with tracks such as ‘Last Night’, the whole album is undoutbly cool and stylish.

'Lungs’- Florence and the Machines

I couldn’t miss out Florence’s debut album that made 2009 so worthwhile for me. The impressive "Dog Days Are Over", neurotic and fierce, to the slightly more reserved follow-up "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)", to the extremes of "Kiss with a Fist", a jokey celebration of mutual domestic violence and noisy guitars, gives the album a mix up rock/indie pop. ‘You’ve got the Love’ gives me goose bumps every time I hear it, the biggest regret of 2009 not seeing them.
